Juventus have made no secret of their interest in the Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.
Liverpool “will do all they can” to retain Emre Can this summer, according to former goalkeeper Alex Manninger.
Can’s contract expires this summer and the Germany international is free to discuss pre-contract terms with teams outside of England ahead of a potential free transfer.
Italian champions Juventus have made no secret of their interest in snaring the Reds midfielder on a free transfer, but Liverpool won’t give up without a fight, according to Manninger.
Former Austrian keeper Manninger played for both clubs during his lengthy career and joined the Reds as back up in 2016, four years after ending a Juventus career which spanned four seasons.
And the 40-year-old thinks Liverpool will do their utmost to keep Can at Anfield this summer.
“Liverpool will do everything to keep hold of Emre Can,” he told Il Bianconero.
“He is still young because he is just 24 years old. He always wants to win.
“His characteristics are attracting the biggest teams in Europe, but in my opinion if Juventus were to buy him they would be lucky because he is a top player.”
Both Juve and the Reds are in the hat for Friday’s quarter-final draw for the Champions League, and the ex-Reds veteran would relish a last-eight tie between his two former clubs.
He added: “Liverpool? It will be a very balanced quarter-final.
“My former teammates have made a great return to the Champions League. They are a very competitive and are no less than Real Madrid and Barcelona.
“The Reds are a sight to behold and together with Manchester City, are a team that scores the most in the Premier League.”
