SOUTHAMPTON are considering a move for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, according to reports in France.
Sakho has been a peripheral figure at Liverpool this season and has made just five appearances for the Under-23s.
The France international has been cast aside by Jurgen Klopp ever since he was sent home early from the team’s pre-season tour of the USA.
And the arrival of defensive duo Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip means he is now surplus to requirements at Anfield.

Publication Get French Football claim Southampton are showing interest in the 26-year-old and could offer him a lifeline in January.
The report says Saints are ‘heavily considering’ a deal for the former Paris Saint-Germain who has Premier League and Champions League experience.

Claude Puel’s side are in the market for defenders following Jose Fonte’s refusal to extend his current contract with the club.
The Portugal international looks set to leave with his deal expiring in June 2018, while fellow centre-back Virgil van Dijk has also been tipped to move.
The former Celtic star is reportedly a major target for Chelsea who are considering an offer in the region of £60million for the Holland international.
Sakho would be a viable replacement and has a wealth of Premier League experience having racked up 56 appearances for the Reds.
He will also be well known to Saints boss Puel who managed Nice in Ligue 1 during Sakho’s time with PSG.
However, they could face stiff competition for his signature with Turkish giants Galatasaray reportedly also tracking the Frenchman.
