Liverpool fans were understandably thrilled when their club announced the signing of midfielder Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich last week.
One of the most technically-gifted footballers about, the Reds managed to seal Thiago’s signature for £25 million – a relative bargain in today’s market.
The 29-year-old made his Liverpool two days after joining the club, against Chelsea last Sunday.
Thiago entered the fray at the start of the second-half and dictated the tempo of the match against the 10-man Blues at Stamford Bridge.
He also set a new Premier League record. His 75 successful passes were the most by a player who played a maximum of 45 minutes.
75 – Half-time substitute Thiago completed more passes (75) than any Chelsea player managed in the entire match. Since full passing data is available for the Premier League (2003-04), his 75 successful passes are the most by a player who played a maximum of 45 minutes. Control. pic.twitter.com/UvHfrw1ggN

Thiago is now expected to make his first start on Monday night when Liverpool go head-to-head against Arsenal at Anfield.
Ahead of next week’s Premier League clash, Thiago and his teammates trained on Friday.
The latest ‘Inside Training’ video has now dropped – and Thiago was oozing with confidence throughout the session.

That clip also shows the midfielder juggling the ball with fellow summer signing Diogo Jota.
In another clip, we hear Liverpool’s assistant boss Pep Lijnders shouting “Thiago! That’s football! Good boy!” after watching the new signing displaying a couple of nice touches…
