Chelsea are weighing up a move for Christian Benteke, with Diego Costa expected to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
Costa was involved in a training ground bust-up with Antonio Conte last week and was left out of the Blues squad which defeated Leicester 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.
It’s understood the row was over an eye-watering offer Costa had received from Chinese Super League outfit Tianjin Quanjian but the Spanish forward was spotted back in training at Cobham in midweek.
However, with the 28-year-old striker is still expected to leave Chelsea in the summer, the board are eyeing potential replacements and a surprise name is being considered.
The Guardian suggest Crystal Palace star Benteke, 26, is on Chelsea’s shortlist in case Costa moves on at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.
Antonio Conte remains keen on Benteke despite the Belgian’s underwhelming season with Liverpool, where he only managed ten goals in 42 appearances.
Fernando Llorente, Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku are also on Conte’s radar.
