Borussia Dortmund to ruin Liverpool’s transfer plans with £42m bid for striker

Borussia Dortmund are weighing up a €50 million (£42.5m) offer for Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams, according to reports in Spain.

Radio Marca claim that 22-year-old is one of Dortmund’s ‘great goals’ ahead of the summer transfer window and the club are prepared to activate the forward’s hefty release clause.

Dortmund view Williams as a potential option to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has admitted that this could be his final season in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool have also been heavily linked with a move for Williams, with reports in Italy claiming that Jurgen Klopp’s side are also ready to trigger the striker’s release clause at the end of the campaign.

Williams, who primarily plays on Bilbao’s right flank but is also capable of filling in as a striker, has five goals and five assists in 32 appearances for the Basque club this term.

When asked about Liverpool’s reported interest earlier this month, Williams admitted he would be open to a move to Anfield.

‘If [Liverpool] are looking at me it’s because I’m doing things well. I’m very lucky,’ he told Sportium.

‘If tomorrow I had to leave I would always be very honest with Athletic. They’ve given me everything.

‘The first I would do is speak to the president [if I wanted to leave.]’
