Barcelona tweet about scoring a goal vs Liverpool 38 mins into the game backfired

Barcelona and the Champions League certainly hasn’t been a great mix in the last two seasons.

Ernesto Valverde’s side have now been knocked out of the competition two years running after earning a three-goal advantage in the first leg of a tie.

Roma got the job done in the quarter-final last season and it was Liverpool’s turn this time around to pull off a quite astonishing comeback.

After losing the first leg 3-0 in the Camp Nou, Jurgen Klopp’s side rallied and beat the Blaugrana 4-0 at Anfield last night.

It will go down as one of the – if not the – greatest comeback in the history of the competition.

When Divock Origi opened the scoring after just seven minutes, there was of course optimism in the air at Anfield.

But few expected what followed in the second-half and even Barca’s official Twitter account was confident of a different outcome.

So much so that they posted out a tweet that the admin will be regretting for quite some time…

Barca wrote: “We score, Liverpool need FIVE – and we’re going to get at least one… agreed?
🔵🔴 #LFCBarça (1-0, agg 1-3).”

The post was duly retweeted by hordes of Liverpool fans after the final-whistle was blown and who could blame them?

Barca certainly had their chances on the night to score what would have been a crucial away goal, but Alisson Becker was imperious between the posts for Liverpool.

The Brazilian thwarted Lionel Messi on a number of occasions, keeping his 25th clean sheet of the season.

Barca’s account did at least send a congratulatory message to Liverpool on their win, but it wasn’t exactly the most heart filled one we’ve ever seen.
