Barcelona are reportedly ready to try again to sign Borussia Dortmund forward and Manchester United target Ousmane Dembele if Neymar ends up sealing a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Catalan giants were strongly linked with the France international earlier in the summer, though Dortmund insisted the player was not for sale as speculation then died down.
However, Barca look set to go back in for Dembele and have reportedly informed Philippe Coutinho that he’ll be their top target if they cannot land the Liverpool playmaker.
Reports emerged this week that Barcelona had made a £72million bid for Coutinho amid doubts over Neymar’s future, but the Reds responded by rejecting the deal, insisting that they’re not a selling club.
According to The Sun, Dembele is next on Barcelona’s wish-list, with the £79m-rated attacker an ideal candidate to fill the void left by Neymar on the left-hand side of their front three.
The 20-year-old only joined Dortmund last summer but has shown himself to be one of the finest young players in Europe with 18 goals and 10 assists last season.
Manchester United and Chelsea were also linked with an interest in the youngster earlier this summer, though it now seems likely that that has cooled due to both clubs signing alternatives up front.
Romelu Lukaku ended up at Old Trafford in a £75m deal, while Chelsea moved instead to bring in Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid for around £60m.
It remains to be seen if Barcelona can now win the race for Dembele, though their president Josep Bartomeu remains defiant that Neymar is not leaving.
Asked today if he could guarantee the Brazilian would stay, he said: ‘Yes, it is what we have always said.’
However, various reports across Europe and in Brazil suggest Neymar has told his club team-mates he wants to move and that he has agreed terms with PSG.
