According to AS (via the IB Times), Liverpool target and Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez “dreams” of a move to the Premier League.
What’s the Story?
Whn speaking to Direct TV earlier this month, Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez revealed that he would like to play in England stating;
“I dream of playing in the Premier League because the games are very even. I would like to go [to England]”.
This has alerted Liverpool, who have been long ttime admirers of the 22-year-old, who is valued at £23.8million by Transfermarkt, and are keen to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new season.
How good was Gimenez last season?
Featuring 27 times in all competitions for Atletico, Gimenez continues his impressive progress last season. A pure defender in every sense of the word, the Uruguayan possess maturity well beyond his years and is a reminder of old school defenders who put their body on the line for the cause.
However, perhaps his most dominant threat is his aerial ability. Whether in a defensive scenario or from offensive set pieces, Gimenez gets his head to the ball over any other player on the field.
Would Gimenez be a good signing for Liverpool?
There is perhaps no position on the field where Liverpool need to strengthen than in the centre of their defence. For the last three seasons, their back line has been the cause of many losses and it certainly requires tightening up if they want to be a threat domestically and in Europe.
While he is still young, Gimenez possesses bundles of talent and has a hugely bright future ahead of him. Klopp should be doing all he can to push this signing through.
