There can be no doubt, the Reds need a new centre-half to come in and help shore up our defence ahead of the new Premier League season in 2017/18.
Of course, we need a whole host of new players in different positions throughout the summer but it is in defence where you feel we need most in terms of extra options.
Of course, we thought that Virgil van Dijk was going to come in but that deal went south quickly and now we are going to be linked with all manner of centre-backs to potentially sign.
Indeed, as per The Mirror, Ben Gibson is one of the players we could sign but it appears as though we’ll have a battle on as new Boro manager Garry Monk has said that he wants to keep hold of the £20m-rated player.
“It’s important that you keep your best players, and important you’re able to keep a core together and give yourself the best possible opportunity of reaching the club’s ambition, which is to go back to the Premier League.
“Ben is a big part of that. Discussions will happen with players. It’s my job to sit with them, and show them the way forward.”
Time, then, will tell with this one.
