There’s been a bit of a throwback feel to this week in terms of transfer rumours with Alexandre Lacazette getting linked with the club by The Telegraph.
The Lyon forward has been in superb form once again this season and you get the feeling now that the time is right for him to move on to one of the biggest leagues in Europe.
That will surely mean, though, that competition for his signature will be fierce and so we’ll have to put in a strong amount of groundwork to get him in.
If we have Champions League football that will surely only help grease the wheels with us being able to offer him a starring role as our next hero up top.
This is a deal we’re very keen to see the Reds pursue, then, and here are two reasons to explain exactly why…
POTENTIALLY WORLD CLASS
There’s an argument to suggest he is already world class but we feel he has to do it in one of the biggest leagues around to truly underline that.
Ligue 1 has improved recently but it’s not near the Premier League in terms of quality yet we get the feeling he’d adjust pretty quickly. He’s on an upward trajectory and if he can adapt to the way we play and the way the league works then we’ll surely have a leading forward in our midst.
COMING INTO HIS PRIME
In recent times we’ve been accustomed to the Reds going after players with potential but this deal would surely change that.
Lacazette, rated at around €45m, is close to his prime and we’d be getting him for his best years – not in the hope we’d have him for them. Jurgen Klopp’s side needs to start coming of age from next season and having the Frenchman up top would surely help that process out.
