The Christian Pulisic transfer saga came back to the fore yesterday as The Liverpool Echo suggested that a move could be back on the table.
It’s another one of those stories that seems to run until the summer now, despite it seemingly going quiet and many of us surely thinking it was over for now.
Borussia Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has said the club have too many attacking players, though, and so the possibility of selling some of them is there.
Christian Pulisic could be available for a move, then, but if we do sign him surely that will require some moving about in the line-up – especially given that he’s bound to be expected to play most of the time.
We’re thinking well ahead, then, but here are two players we think could see their position under threat should Pulisic sign for the club…
This seems a bit contrived but stick with us.
If Pulisic comes in he’s likely going to go down the left of our attacking three. Philippe Coutinho would surely drop into the midfield, then, and that would leave either Adam Lallana or Georginio Wijnaldum out of the side as they are the advanced central players in the three. It’s likely the Dutchman would go based on Klopp’s rotation of him this season, too.
We get the feeling that Klopp is more than happy for us to not have an out-and-out forward leading the line and so he’d surely have no qualms of bringing Firmino out of the side.
Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Pulisic would then be the front three with the idea that they can all operate in any of the three positions up top – something Firmino has struggled to suggest he can also do at times this season.
