Reds boss Jürgen Klopp will be looking to add both quality and strength-in-depth to what is an already strong group of players at Anfield this summer, in an attempt to ensure that they are competitive on all fronts this season.
One particular area of concern for the German will be the left-back department, after having to rely on James Milner to play in the role for the entirety of last season.
Reports have linked Liverpool with a move for Hull City’s Andrew Robertson, with Klopp thought to be lining up an £8 million bid for the Scot, according to the Express.
There is another option out there for the Reds though, and arguably a more exciting one – Barcelona’s Lucas Digne, who has been linked with a £14.5 million switch to Inter Milan, according to Italian media outlet Corrire dello Sport.
The 23-year-old full-back joined Barca from PSG in the summer of 2016, but failed to nail down a regular starting spot at the Camp Nou, with Jordi Alba proving to be difficult to usurp.
The Frenchman is highly talented though, and at the age he is now, he will need regular first-team football, if he is to develop into the top-tier player that he is capable of becoming.
Digne possesses all of the attributes needed to be a success in a team managed by Klopp – he is technically gifted, calm in possession, has blistering pace, and is just as effective when defending as he is attacking.
Whilst Liverpool will face stringent competition from Inter in the race to sign the Barca man, the lure of competing in the Premier League could tip the scales in their favour.
And if Klopp does manage to bring him to Merseyside, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the Reds.
